Our Hippodrome Online Casino Review for 2017

This is an interesting casino. And why is that?

Because – unlike most casinos we review – Hippodrome has a brick and mortar casino as well. In fact, they’ve been in the business for more than 100 years.

And, why does that matter?

For me, an offline (casino) business instantly establishes trust and authority. It’s so much harder to launch an offline casino than it is to launch an online casino between all your licenses, taxes, overhead, and so on. And Hippodrome has been in business for 100+ years – no easy feat.

But, all that raises the bar too. After all, if they run an offline casino they must have their act together. They should know how to treat their customers; they should have excellent offers; they should have a large selection of high quality games; they should have high quality software; and they should have fast, friendly and informative support.

So, we’re here today to answer the question – does Hippodrome pass the test? Do they have all of these things?

Or, do they fall short?

Let’s get into the review and find out.

Who are they? Who owns and operates this casino?

The Hippodrome is an older company. They opened in 1900, and are known for their casino, as well as their entertainment and 24-hour service.

In fact, their about page says they’ve had several well-known acts perform at their casino. The examples they gave include Stevie Wonder, Judy Garland and Harry Houdini.

They launched their online casino in 2013. It’s powered by Betway.

How do you contact them for support?

You can reach out to them using the following methods:

Envelope
PHONE (UK): 0-808-238-9840
LIVE CHAT

They say on their contact us page that their contact details are only for customers of their online casino. However, I sent them an email to ask about their cash out fees. They didn’t ask if I was a customer, nor did Max seem to care.

Max was friendly and answered my question. My only complaint is that it took 2 days to get a response. So, my suggestion is to try live chat first if you have a pressing issue.

Have they been involved in any scandals?

I couldn’t find any.

I did find some complaints on AskGamblers.com, though – 6 of them, dated between 2013-2015. Only 2 of the 6 have been resolved. But it doesn’t look like Hippodrome participates on AskGamblers, and the resolved complaints were mediated by AskGamblers.com. My point – it’s hard to say whether the remaining complaints have been resolved, given that Hippodrome doesn’t seem to respond to complaints publicly.

I also didn’t find Betway or Hippodrome on Casinomesiter.com’s rogue list. Betway is on the Grey Zone list, though, for slow payments. But this list isn’t a mark against them, but instead only saying they’re not worthy of being an ‘accredited’ casino.

But I did find Hippodrome on one blacklist. There’s no reason why, though. Nor is the page dated. So, there’s no way to know if this is an old, but forgotten page. And neither Betway or Hippodrome are on their main blacklist.

The worst thing I could find about Betway I already covered in their review. The short version is they got off on the wrong foot when they launched in 2013. But since then they’ve improved their management and customer service. You can read more about it here (link to Betway review).

The bottom line – I found nothing that would lead me to blacklist their casino or warn our readers about playing there.

What deposit methods can you use to fund your account?

You can use:

  • Visa
  • MasterCard
  • PayPal
  • Neteller
  • Skrill
  • PaySafeCard
  • Entropay
  • EcoPayz
  • Skrill 1-Tap
  • Click and Buy
  • Direct Bank Transfer

What methods can you use to cash out your winnings? Are there any limits or fees?

You can use:

  • Visa
  • PayPal
  • Neteller
  • Skrill
  • EcoPayz
  • Click and Buy
  • Direct Bank Transfer

The minimum cash out is $10. They do not charge any fees on cash outs.

Are there any other rules or terms you should know about?

They have a limit of $4,000 per week for players who win amounts larger than 5x the sum of their total deposits.

Do they offer a signup bonus?

Hippodrome has a $1,000 Welcome Bonus. This is spread out over your first 3 deposits, like so:

  • 100% match up to $250
  • 100% match up to $250
  • 100% match up to $500

The min deposit is $20.

The rollover for this offer is 50x (minimum). However, not all games will contribute equally to the bonus, or at all. The following shows how much each game contributes:

  • 100% - All slots and parlor games.
  • 8% - All table pokers, all roulettes, all video/power pokers (except all aces and jacks or better video/power pokers), all blackjacks (except classic blackjack) and casino war.
  • 0% (excluded games) – Includes classic blackjack, all aces video/power pokers, jacks or better video/power pokers, all baccarats, all craps, red dog and sic bo.

One other thing – all 3 deposits need to be made within 7 days of you creating your account. I don’t care for this rule, as – to me – it prevents players on a budget from fulling taking advantage of this offer.

What other offers can you claim?

There is one other offer:

Live Casino Cash Back

Play in their live casino on Wednesdays and Thursdays and you can get 20% cash back on your losses up to $50. The play through is the same as the welcome bonus above.

The other offers they have are limited time deals. For example:

  • You can win free spins for choosing the slot that’s wagered on the most.
  • Win a trip to the Mazagan Beach & Golf Resort.
  • Get loyalty points multipliers during certain periods or while playing on specific slot machines.

As well as others. This is one of those casinos where you’ll want to come back every so often to see what new stuff they have for you to claim.

Does Hippodrome offer a comps or VIP program?

Yes. They have a 6-tier VIP program. The higher up you go, the larger and the better the bonuses you can get. And once you achieve a level, you need to only earn half of what it took to get there to maintain your status.

You can also get cash back. You’ll earn as much as 5 loyalty points for every $10 you spend. Once you have 5,000 loyalty points, you can turn them in for $10 cash back.

How many games can you play? Where do they come from?

You can play more than 450 unique casino games. All of them come from software powerhouse, Microgaming.

Which table games can you play?

There are 20 different blackjack games. Some of your options include:

  • Vegas Strip Blackjack
  • Vegas Single Deck Blackjack Gold
  • European Advanced Blackjack
  • Atlantic City Blackjack
  • Multi-Hand Blackjack
  • Hi/Lo 13 European Blackjack
  • High Streak European Blackjack
  • Multi Vegas Downtown
  • European Blackjack Redeal
  • Classic Blackjack Gold

There are also 8 table games to choose from:

  • Baccarat Gold
  • High Limit Baccarat
  • Baccarat
  • Craps
  • Sic Bo
  • Cyberstud Poker
  • Poker Pursuit
  • Red Dog

My only complaint here is it’d be nice to see more unique table game options, rather than almost all blackjack and baccarat games. There are lots more tables games out there people like to play.

Last up, their roulette games. Here are your options:

  • European Roulette Gold
  • American
  • French Roulette
  • Multi-Player Roulette
  • Multi Wheel Roulette Gold
  • European
  • Premier Roulette Diamond Edition
  • Premier Roulette

All these roulette options are great. You’ll be hard-pressed to find a non-Microgaming powered casino that has this many variants.

Which slot machines can you play?

They have a couple hundred slots (at minimum) – far too many to list individually. So we’ll list the few 3 and 5-reel machines that stood out to us.

  • Life of Riches
  • Break Da Bank Again
  • Suntide
  • Tome Raider: Secret of The Sword
  • Lost Vegas
  • Dragonz
  • Jurassic Park
  • Retro Reels
  • Game of Thrones
  • Red Hot Devil
  • Hellboy
  • Bridesmaids
  • Football Star
  • Tomb Raider
  • Sure Win
  • Rabbit In The Hat
  • Terminator 2
  • Robojack
  • So Much Candy
  • Karate Pig
  • Hitman
  • Mega Spin
  • Dogfather
  • Fat Lady Sings
  • Crazy 80s
  • Isis
  • Ho Ho Ho
  • Hot Shot
  • Mega Moolah (Progressive)
  • Major Millions (Progressive)
  • King Cashalot (Progressive)
  • Wheel of Wealth
  • Couch Potato
  • Bar Bar Black Sheep
  • Peek-A-Boo
  • Jurassic Jackpot
  • Cosmic Cat
  • Jewel Thief
  • Heavy Metal
  • Mocha Orange
  • 7 Oceans
  • Trick or Treat
  • High Five
  • Jingle Bells
  • Legacy
  • Triple Magic
  • Jackpot Express
  • Zany Sebra
  • Cash Clams
  • Crazy Crocs

What stood out to me most about their slots are the licensed titles – more specifically, Tomb Raider, Terminator 2 and Hellboy. Those would be the machines I’d play first.

Then there’s Mega Moolah, a progressive slot that has paid tens of millions over the past 5-10 years.

Other than that, what caught my eye are all the unique slot titles and themes. You can only do so many of the diamonds, 7s and lucky this or that before you get bored. But there are lots of fun and unique titles outside the casino norm here.

What video poker games can you play?

They have 18 different games to choose from. Here are some of your options:

  • Double Bonus Poker
  • Jacks or Better
  • Deuces Wild
  • 3 Card Poker
  • Triple Pocket Hold’em
  • All Aces Poker
  • Aces and Eights
  • Aces & Faces
  • Bonus Deuces Wild
  • Bonus Poker

It looks like they have (multi-hand) variants of some of these titles, too.

Which specialty games can you play?

One thing I didn’t see here is a specialty or other game section. I didn’t find any scratch or bingo games. But I only checked their website – I’d be surprised if they didn’t have any in their back end.

Is there anything else you can play?

Hippodrome has a live casino with several games to choose from.

  • Roulette
  • French Roulette
  • Blackjack
  • Casino Holdem
  • Three Card Poker
  • Ultimate Texas Holdem
  • Baccarat
  • Caribbean Stud

This is a solid selection of live dealer games. And I also like how they have both men and women dealers.

Is there a download?

No, there’s no download. All of their games are available in their instant play (Flash) casino.

Are there mobile casino games?

There is. You don’t need an app. Simply go to their website on your mobile device and you can play from your browser.

What do we like least about them?

I thought their website was a little difficult to use. It took me a little while to find their promotions, and it was somewhat difficult to learn about each one.

Having to make all 3 deposits for the welcome bonus within 7 days is a bit of stretch. One of the benefits to spreading the bonus out – to me – is to give people a chance to take full advantage of each one. Sometimes people need a little time between deposits to come up with the extra money to do that.

Last, I’d like to see a few more table games.

What do we like most about them?

Despite having a hard time finding some stuff on their site, I do like how organized it is otherwise. It’s not hard to find the games, which is what’s most important. They also have a few filters you can use to quickly find any specific games you’re after.

They use Microgaming software, too. So, you get hundreds of games, lots of licensed slots and games with huge progressive jackpots. On top of that you’ll have loads of blackjack, roulette and video poker variants. Much more than what you’ll find at most competing casinos.

Last, they have a robust selection of live dealer games.

Do we recommend Hippodrome Online?

Yeah, we do. It’s hard to go wrong here – there are loads of games, a few promos, mobile compatibility and more – all from a casino who’s been around longer than we’ve all been alive.

I say you check them out. Today.
