When I say, Magic Red Casino, do you get a feeling of déjà vu?

I wouldn’t blame you if you did.

When I first set out to review their casino, I was under the impression that Magic Red was a brand-spanking new. That they had no history to speak of. That they were starting from scratch.

But that’s not the case at all.

Magic Red actually launched a few years ago. Then they were owned by a company named, Redfinger Trading Limited, who also happens to be the company behind Winner.com. FYI, Winner.com has the honor of gracing several rogue lists in our industry.

Then Magic Red closed. And we’ve heard nothing of or from them until now.

So, here we are in 2017, and Magic Red is (re)launching. I put ‘re’ in parenthesis because while the name is being relaunched, they’re now being ran by a new company – which is sort of like launching for the first time.

Doesn’t matter either way, really. Our end goal is the same, whether they’re relaunching or launching for the first time. And that’s to figure out if they’re worthy of your hard-earned money in 2017.

Are they hot …or just a warmed-up version of their old selves?

Deposit Methods

Here are the banking options Magic Red accepts:

They don’t post their limits for every banking option. But, for those they do, the limits are the same — $10 to $1,200. Some options have no max limit posted, which leads me to think it’s unlimited or varies.

They don’t post their cash out methods, but previous experience tells me most of these options should be available for cash outs. Their minimum cash out is $10, and the max is $7,000 per month. Any amount of $2,300 (per month) will require additional verification.

$7,000 per month is low, especially for a non-US casino. And they say nothing about making exceptions for jackpot winners, which I take to mean they don’t do.

When I contacted them by email, they responded in less than 24 hours. And their response was far better than the help I received when I contacted them using live chat.

I asked their live chat about their software. I wanted to know whether they had a download, instant play, mobile compatible games, or all of the above. Do you know what he told me?

He couldn’t help me, because they aren’t licensed in the USA. That makes no sense, of course. I get the feeling that maybe he didn’t want to spend time helping me since he knew I couldn’t become a customer.

(That, or he’s truly stupid. Eh, it could go either way, honestly.)

I eventually got the information out of him. But it took a few tries, and he wasn’t very direct.

He also didn’t seem keen on making sure all my questions were answered. Because, as soon as I said ‘thank you,’ he said, ‘my pleasure,’ and ended the chat right then and there. He didn’t ask if I had any other questions or needed help with anything else. He just ended the chat.

The other thing that bothered me about that is they didn’t let me send myself a copy of the transcript.

The bottom line – go with email over live chat if you decide to play here. Or, do both to see which works best for you. But don’t be surprised if live chat is less than stellar, which still blows my mind to think about.

This is the first time – FIRST TIME – I’ve ever complained about a casino’s live chat.

Yes, you read that right. I said promotion – as in one, singular offer.

Right now, Magic Red only offers a deposit bonus and VIP program. I’ll cover both in detail below, followed by any additional thoughts I may have.

Make a minimum deposit of €10+ and Magic Red will match you 100% up to €200.

They will also give you 100 free spins to use on their Game of Thrones, Gonzo’s Quest or Starburst slot machines. You’ll get spins on your first deposit, and 40 on your 2^nd and 3^rd deposit.

This has a 35x rollover on both the deposit and bonus. But keep in mind that – like most online casinos – not all games will contribute to this offer equally. And you only have 21 days to fulfill their terms.

Okay, so here’s what I don’t like about this offer:

First, it’s a tad dishonest. They say you get a 100% match bonus and 100 free spins. But you only get a 100% match bonus and 20 free spins on your FIRST deposit.

You don’t get the remaining 80 spins until after your 2^nd and 3^rd deposit. Pretty stingy, if you ask me.

I’m also not a fan of their 35x rollover on both the deposit and bonus. Though, I just got down reviewing MyBookie.ag, who happened to impose a 50x rollover on both your deposit and bonus. So, I don’t feel as strongly about this as I first did.

And third – and this is the worst part – you can’t play any video poker, roulette, baccarat or most other table games to clear this offer. You can play blackjack, which contributes only 10%. You can play slots (obviously), but many slots contribute 50%. Some won’t count at all.

Stingy. Stingy. Stingy.

Moving on…

Magic Red offers a multi-tier VIP program, too. There are 7 tiers, which include:

You unlock access to more perks as you move up in tiers. Perks include faster cash outs, better point redemption rates, lower points to next level ratios, higher deposit and cash out limits, and so on.

At first glance, it doesn’t look terribly hard to move up in levels. I mean, it only takes 350 points to get to the Gold level. That’s what I thought, anyway, until I looked up how many points you got for every dollar you wagered.

Most online casinos will give you 1 point for every $1-$10 you spend.

But not Magic Red. They give 1 point for every $35 spent. This is 3.5x more than other casinos. This means you’ll have to spend $350 just to move from New Member to Bronze.

That said, it looks like their default points-to-cash exchange rate is 35:1. Most casinos do 100:1. So, while Magic Red’s 3.5x stingier on the points, their exchange rate is nearly 33% better. So, it comes out the same on paper.

But there’s one other thing you need to think about.

Since it takes longer to earn points, and the fact that most casino games are against you, having to play more money for points means variance might bust you before you earn anything meaningful. Which sort of makes their seemingly better points-to-cash-back ratio a moot point.

Overall, I feel like Magic Red is stingy. They don’t have many offers yet (stingy), they have steep rollover requirements (stingy) and force you to play longer for your points (stingy).

The only saving grace I can think of is that they’re a new site, and that maybe – just maybe – they’ll listen to feedback (like this review) and revamp their offers and terms.

One of the upsides to Magic Red is they work with several software providers. That includes Ash Gaming, Playtech and NetEnt software. This means you get access to a large and diverse selection of casino games.

Or, you should.

By my count, Magic Red has just shy of 200 games. This isn’t mind-blowing, but it’s not like 200 games is chump change, either.

However, as you’re about to find out, those 200 games should be somewhat spread evenly between their slots, table games, video poker machines and other games.

Are they?

You tell me – here are the game titles you’ll find on their site.

What I like about their video slots are some of the recognizable titles. For example, just about everyone has heard of Merlin, Superman, Aladdin and Robin Hood. Nostalgia always makes games more fun to play.

Not much to add here. This is an okay selection of titles for a smaller (yet, still rabid) market of slots players.

This is a pitiful selection of table and video poker games. At first I thought they were all table games, which would make this list (in terms of quantity) a tad better. But since they’re a mix of both, all I can say is that Magic Red has some work to do.

This is a massive selection of scratch games. It’s about as big as their video slots section. This is great if you’re into these games. Otherwise it’s a massive waste of time and space that could’ve otherwise been used for a beefier table game and video poker section.

Not much to say here. Just another section of ‘chance’ games. Which is sort of sad, given how few table, blackjack and video poker games there are.

Overall, their selection pales in comparison to other casinos – even though they have 200+ games and work with leading software companies.

However, if you’re a slots, scratch card and bingo fan, you’ll be right at home. You’ll be able to play their games from a download, their instant play casino, and on your mobile device. Their mobile site – which is sort of scary/confusing because it’s on a different domain – didn’t fit my (newer) iPhone screen very well. And, their game selection looked like it’s much smaller than what you have to choose from on their website.

It looks like it can use some work, which is a recurring theme all throughout their casino.

Let’s tackle their history first.

Most reviews you’ll find are old and outdated. And I couldn’t find any scam complaints or obviously bad things when I Googled them.

So, my first impression is there’s no clear ties between this (new) company and the one who owned Magic Red previously. Between that, and the fact that Magic Red is licensed and regulated – for whatever that’s worth – I feel like there’s no reason to consider their past when deciding whether to play here.

Besides, there’s plenty of other stuff to consider instead. For example:

• They don’t accept US players.
• Their (live chat) customer support sucked.
• They have 1 bonus and 1 VIP program.
• Their bonus terms are a tad high, and don’t include most table or video poker games.
• The points-for-money-spent ratio is 3.5x higher than other casinos. And even though their points-to-cash-back ratio is 33% better than other casinos – which makes this program look good on paper – the simple fact is (I think) it’s going to be much harder to earn points, which cancels out however good their points-to-cash-back ratio is.
• Their games are heavily weighted to arcade games, scratch tickets and slots. There’s almost no table or video poker games. This is in despite of working with 3 leading software companies.
• They don’t post any information about them on their website. This is especially important being new, but even more so when you’re relaunching an old / pre-existing site.

For that reason, my recommendation is to pass on these guys and either stick with or join a casino like 888, Will Hill, Bet365 and so on. All these casinos have more games and promotions than you could possibly take advantage of.

My guess is you’ll have a far better time at these casinos, and without having to take a risk on a potentially warmed-over ‘new’ online casino.
