Find Out How and Where to Play Live Dealer Roulette in 2019

Let me ask you a question –

What do you do if you want to play roulette, but can’t make it to a brick and mortar casino?

Some people would suggest you play online. And, that’s not a terrible idea.

However, regular (RNG) roulette lacks the human aspect that comes with gambling in a B/M casino. You don’t have the small talk with the croupier, or the banter with the other players. You also don’t get to experience the noise, lights and other things only experienced in a B/M casino.

So, what do you do then? Here’s our advice:

Play online, but play live dealer roulette games instead. Live dealer roulette games are streamed in real time, and include most of the benefits of playing in a real casino.

If that’s something that interests you, then you’re in the right place. Immediately below we’ll show you the best live dealer casinos you can join, as well as an explanation on our process to finding them.

Finding the Best Live Dealer Roulette Casinos

Finding the best live dealer roulette casino doesn’t have to be hard. Here’s how I do it:

The first thing I do is make sure the casino offers live dealer games. Common sense, you’d think, but sometimes common sense isn’t common.

Then I check the casino for the following:

  • Reputation – Can I trust this casino? Do others trust them? Do they have a rep for running fair games and paying their customers?
  • Banking Options – Do they accept payment methods I want to use, at limits I’m willing to spend? Do they charge fees?
  • Software – Do they have a download, instant play and/or mobile casino?
  • Promotions – Do they offer any deals I can/want to claim? Do they offer any deals specifically for live dealer players?

This is in order of importance, too, from most to least important. If this stuff doesn’t check out, especially the first point, I’d (probably) pass on the casino. But it depends on specifically what I (don’t) find.

This stuff is important to investigate first because it will impact your experience regardless of the live dealer games and options they have. Everything after this doesn’t matter if the casino is shady or a pain in the butt to work with.

From here I look at live dealer games and options. More specifically, I look for:

  • Variants – What types of roulette games can I play? Do they have my favorites? Do they have any I’m interested in trying?
  • Stakes – Can I afford the min. table stakes? And/or, do they have max limits that fit what I want to spend?
  • Software – Can I play live dealer games how I want to, whether it’s by download, instant play or mobile?
  • Free – Can I play for free? Sometimes it’s not about playing for and winning money for me. Sometimes it’s just the experience of playing in the casino. If you can do that without spending money, that’s a plus.

Those are things I look for when reviewing a potential live casino. Your list might be different – and that’s okay – because everyone’s after different things.

My suggestion is this – make a list of rooms that pass the first list of requirements above (rep, banking, etc.). Then take your list of things you want regarding live dealer games and run each casino by it. Find the 1-3 casinos that fit the list the best, then create free accounts at each one to check them out. Contact support; double check their banking options; use their software; act as if you’re using their casino for real money.

Then choose your favorites and make deposits at each one.

And have fun.

Live Roulette FAQ

Here are answers to the most common questions we get about playing live dealer roulette games online.

What live roulette variants can you play?

This depends on the casino you join and the software companies they work with. Each software company offers different variants.

These are the most common variants you can expect to find:

  • Immersive Roulette – Uses Hollywood-style HD cameras.
  • Spanish – For people who want to speak Spanish or want Spanish speaking dealers.
  • Italian – For people who want to speak Italian or want Italian speaking dealers.
  • French – For people who want to speak French or want French speaking dealers.
  • Polish – For people who want to speak Polish or want Polish speaking dealers.
  • German – For people who want to speak German or want German speaking dealers.
  • British – For people who want to speak English or want English speaking dealers.
  • Dragonara Roulette – Play in the Dragonara Palace in Malta – one of the most luxurious casinos in the world. You’ll sit and play alongside players actually at the Dragonara Casino.
  • Auto – A live setting but with an automatic (AI) dealer.
  • Mini Roulette – a much smaller window. Gives you a chance to play multiple roulette games at once.
  • Slingshot Auto Roulette – Get between sixty and eighty spins per hour. This has a fully automated wheeler – there’s no human croupier.
  • Dual Roulette – Play at two tables at once.
  • Exclusive / VIP / Diamond – Higher limit tables.
  • Golden Ball – This uses a tournament format. You’re competing against other players to see who will have the highest total amount wagered for 20 consecutive games.
  • Reel Roulette – Offers side bets with symbols based on various slot games.
  • Double Ball – Uses 2 balls (instead of 1) per spin.

But game variants aren’t the only differentiation you’ll find.

Other than game variants, another ‘variation’ you can expect to find are the dealers themselves. Not only will you have different dealers – because these are real people who need time off – but you’ll also come across dealers of different genders, ethnicities and dealers who’re dressed according to a theme.

Are only women dealers?

No, there are male dealers, too. But, in my experience, women dealers make up the majority of live dealers.

Can Americans play live dealer roulette?

A couple years ago live dealer options for US players was nearly non-existent. But nowadays it’s relatively easy to find a US casino with live dealer games.

Your biggest challenge at this point is finding a casino that offers more than just roulette – for example, roulette variants you want to play. Or, even unique live dealer games other than roulette.

Can you play from your mobile device?

Yes. For most casinos, you’ll either play from within their instant play casino – from your browser – or you’ll download their casino app. In fact, a few casinos we’ve reviewed have apps solely for their live dealer games.

Can you use betting strategies?

Yeah, nothing has changed there. You can still use progressive or regressive betting strategies. For example, you can use the (reverse) Martingale, Labouchere, D’Alembert, Parole or Fibonacci.

But if you want to use a betting strategy – no matter if it’s for regular (RNG) or live dealer roulette – our advice is the same. Use these strategies for fun, because nothing you do – outside of cheating – will change your odds of winning.

Can you cheat?

We don’t recommend trying.

That said, probably not. Most roulette cheating techniques require you to be physically present.

You could probably use the top hatting cheating strategy. This involves the dealer, where they’ll overlook sleight-of-hand techniques – which is impossible without you there – or who’ll actively place chips on numbers for you – which is also unlikely given how live dealer games work.

The bottom line – cheating will be all but impossible to do. And, even if you could pull it off, you’d have to have someone on the inside.

What’s different or unique about live dealer roulette?

Compared to regular (RNG) roulette, you get human interaction; a real person hosts and runs the game. In some cases, you can even make small talk with them. Not only that, but with some live dealer games you’ll be sitting next to a real person – sometimes that person will be present at the casino the game is streaming from.

Other than that, the (min/max) stakes are typically higher. And, you have some roulette variants not available for non-live games.

Compared to brick and mortar roulette, there are some differences, too. Live dealer games are a bit faster. You have access to bonuses and other promotions. And you have variants that B/M casinos probably won’t have.

Why play live dealer roulette?

I mentioned several differences above, all of which could be reasons to play. The game’s faster than RNG roulette, but slower than B/M casino roulette. You have more variants to choose from. You can play with real people without having to leave home. You also save a lot of money compared to traveling to a B/M casino.

Everyone’s reasons are different.

How do I fund my account?

I recommend you read our banking pages. But – in short – you’ll be able to use credit/debit cards, bitcoin, e-wallets, bank wires, transfers, money transfers, prepaid cards, and more.

Our reviews also tell you which options you can use at that particular casino. This will probably be the most helpful information of all.

How do you play roulette?

Live dealer roulette is pretty much the same as regular roulette. So, instead of covering all the rules here – which will vary slightly from variant to variant – I’ll suggest you read our main roulette page for rules, history, and overall primer to playing the game.

How much can I bet per turn?

It depends on the casino. But has a table that says you can bet anywhere from .10 to $1 per spin, to as much as $50,000 per spin. You can see the table for yourself on their website.

Can I claim a welcome bonus?

Yes. But there are a few things you should keep in mind.

  • Not every casino allows roulette players to claim a bonus.
  • If you can claim a bonus, chances are the playthrough requirements are handicapped so that you have to wager 5-50x more than slots players do.

The reason why (to both of these points) is because roulette is an easy mark for bonus abusers. So, casinos will either prohibit it altogether, or they’ll tell you that you can’t bet on even/odd or red/black, and you have to wager x times more than slots players.

From here you’ll have to decide if the bonus is worth the rules you’d have to follow.

What other offers exist for live roulette players?

Live roulette players will have access to most, if not all of the same offers made available to regular roulette and other casino game players. The only exception is if roulette players are excluded in the terms/conditions.

But those offers include:

  • Reload bonuses
  • Comp points (for cash back)
  • VIP programs

And so on. For more information, I recommend you take some time to read our casino reviews.

Can you play live roulette for free?

At most casinos, no. I’d guess that only 5-10% of live casinos allow players to play for free. And the reason why is simple – there’s far more overhead to run a live roulette game compared to a regular game. Not only that, but usually there’s limited seating. Because of all this, it doesn’t make sense for the casino to offer free (live) games.

Can you watch other people play live dealer roulette?

Sometimes, yeah. I’ve never been inside every single live casino, so I couldn’t tell you which ones do and which ones don’t. But I’ve been to several that don’t let you play for free, but you can open the room and watch the action. The easiest way to know for sure is to create a free account.

Are there any downsides to playing live dealer roulette?

It depends on who you are, and why you might or might not play. But here are some differences that some people may view as downsides:

  • The min. table stakes are often higher compared to regular (RNG) roulette.
  • The games are a little slower compared to regular roulette.
  • Dealers are often from different countries. So, it may be hard to understand them due to their accents.

But, like benefits, everyone’s reason for not playing live roulette will be different.
