A Look at BetSoft Casino Software in 2019

BetSoft is one of the younger software companies we’ve profiled so far. They started their software development business in 2006, and launched their first Slots3 3D slot title in 2010.

Since then they have launched dozens more of their 3D slot titles, which is what they’re now most known for.

BetSoft has also decided to focus heavily on mobile gambling, an area where many of their competitors seem to be lagging. BetSoft started moving their games from Flash to their HTML5 framework, Shift. We’ll talk more about what this means for players (and operators) later on.

Before we get to that, though, let’s look at some of the awards and accolades BetSoft has received during their short tenure in the gaming industry.

After that, we’ll look at some of the issues BetSoft has had recently, and how that landed them on several casino blacklists.

Awards BetSoft Has Been Nominated for or Has Won

BetSoft has been nominated for and/or given awards in a few categories. A few of those awards include:

  • Best Producer of Gaming Solutions (gambling machines)
  • Casino Content Supplier
  • Best Mobile Solution
  • Casino Content Supplier Award from EGR )

With these (and many other) awards and praises, it may be a bit surprising to find out that BetSoft has a dark side, too.

Jackpot Shenanigans and Blacklists

In June 2016, authorities in the gaming space reported about how a player won a progressive jackpot on a BetSoft slot machine at Betcoin Casino, but was denied their winnings.

The player won the jackpot during a free spins round. However, when they went to collect, they were denied by both Betcoin AND BetSoft. The first reason they gave was that the player

“Did not qualify for the jackpot because he was not max-betting at the highest coin size of 1 mBTC.”

However, the player later found and pointed out that this wasn’t necessary – that there’s a separate jackpot for each coin size.

So, then the casino and software developer said that the player couldn’t collect the jackpot because they won it during a free spin round, which was prohibited in the terms and conditions.

But that wasn’t true, either – there was nothing in the terms that said a player couldn’t win a progressive during a free spins round. At least, not until the terms were changed AFTER THE FACT.

Ultimately, the player was denied their winnings, though the reports we read said that they were bribed to take a lesser amount while also being encouraged to tout both Betcoin and BetSoft.

We later found out that, based on the agreement BetSoft has with their operators, BetSoft is responsible for paying out jackpots. From this, the operator is paid a percentage.

Important!
You can see an entire timeline of these events up January 2017 on VegasClick.com.

So, at the end of the day, this was BetSoft’s fault.

This explains why some of the more well-known casinos – such as Bovada and Slots.lv – decided to quietly pull BetSoft’s games from their casinos. And it makes you wonder why the other casinos decided not to.

About the same time this news hit, we noticed other reports of shenanigans or issues with BetSoft. CasinoListings.com tracked their jackpots at both Bovada and Slots.lv for 9 months. And based on the stats, the slots have been “locked” – a way of saying impossible to win – though no one can say whether this was done on purpose.

As a result of this mess, many authority review sites wrote up scam warning pages and/or flat-out listed BetSoft on their blacklist. CasinoListings.com is one prime example.

And while we haven’t flat-out blacklisted BetSoft, we do mention this issue in most of our reviews of casinos who work with them, and often suggest that – at the very least – you avoid playing the max on their progressive machines.

BetSoft’s (Mobile) Technology, Games, and Licensing

BetSoft has developed more than 150 games. We’re going to share examples of most of them in the section after next.

First, let’s talk about casino compatibility, including the tech BetSoft has been using to develop their games so that they’re compatible with more mobile devices.

Shift Technology

Mobile has been a primary focus of BetSoft for the past couple of years. This is evident by their initial foray into mobile gaming with their ToGo mobile games, as well as the shift to develop and deploy games using their Shift technology.

Shift is a framework that uses HTML5. This enables BetSoft to create games without having to worry about having to create separate games for desktop and mobile users, or whether their games will be compatible with every single mobile device or generation.

And that’s because this framework uses HTML5, as opposed to Flash, which is reaching the end of its life. Their Shift framework will not rely on 3rd party plugins, so there are fewer (if any) points of failure.

Another benefit to using Shift is better security, since it won’t rely on 3rd party plugins or tech. There is better compatibility, too, as all popular operating systems natively support HTML5. In turn, more devices – especially mobile, like Windows and Blackberry — will be able to play BetSoft games.

Games will also operate much faster, without sacrificing graphics or gameplay. They’ll load even faster than they did on Flash, too.

Examples of BetSoft Casino Games

You can see most, if not all, of BetSoft’s games on their website. You used to be able to read about each game, too, but it looks like that’s hit-or-miss now, or maybe reserved for potential partners.

But we thought we’d list most of their games here for your convenience. We’ve also listed some of the games we recommend you play – and, despite the issues we outlined above, we do recommend you play them – even if only for free.

Because they are that much fun to play.

Slots3 (3D Slots)

BetSoft’s main focus is on their 3D slots. We’ll talk more about what makes these slot machines neat in just a second. First, here are some of the titles you can play:

  • The Angler
  • Kawaii Kitty
  • Giovanni’s Gems
  • Fire & Steel: War of The Wilds
  • The Slotfather
  • The Slotfather Part II
  • Great 88
  • Magic Shoppe
  • Sin City Nights
  • Fafa Twins
  • Frankenslot’s Monster
  • Birds!
  • Charms & Clovers
  • 4 Seasons
  • A Christmas Carol
  • The Tipsy Tourist
  • Weekend in Vegas
  • Mega Glam Life
  • Alkemor’s Tower
  • Mega Gems
  • Pinocchio
  • Fruit Zen
  • It Came From… Venus!
  • Jekyll & Mr. Hyde
  • Whospunit?
  • Gypsy Rose
  • Tycoons
  • More Gold Diggin’
  • The True Sheriff
  • Sugar Pop!
  • Good Girl Bad Girl
  • A Night in Paris
  • Enchanted
  • Greedy Goblins
  • Boomanji
  • Under the Bed
  • At the Copa
  • After Night Falls
  • Sushi Boy
  • Safari Sam
  • Rook’s Revenge
  • At the Movies
  • The Exterminator
  • Under the Sea
  • Slots Angels
  • Black Gold
  • Lost
  • Madder Scientist
  • Mamma Mia!
  • True Illusions
  • Arrival
  • Viking Age
  • House of Fun
  • Vegas
  • Rock Star
  • Gladiator
  • Treasure Room
  • The Glam Life
  • Heist
  • Once Upon a Time

What makes these games so neat is that that each one is like a mix of a video game, movie trailer, and slot machine.

Many of their 3D machines have short cut scenes you watch before you start the game. Then you play like normal; each machine has different features, such as free spins or bonus rounds. Then there are the animations that are specific to that game – like the monsters sneaking up behind you in Under the Bed.

It’s really hard to do their games justice by trying to describe them. We highly recommend you check them out for yourself.

Table Games

  • 3 Card Rummy
  • Common Draw Roulette
  • Oasis Poker
  • American Blackjack
  • European Blackjack
  • Triple Edge Poker
  • Red Dog
  • Pirate 21 Blackjack
  • Pontoon Blackjack
  • European Roulette
  • Draw High Low 21 Burn Blackjack
  • Single Deck Blackjack
  • Top Card Trumps
  • Super 7 Blackjack
  • Ride’m Poker
  • Baccarat
  • Caribbean Poker
  • Craps
  • Pai Gow Poker
  • American Roulette

There’s not much to say about their table games, other than that they cover the basics pretty well.

Video Poker

  • Deuces & Joker’s Poker
  • 10’s Or Better
  • Bonus Deuces
  • Double Joker Poker
  • Split Way Royal
  • Bonus Poker
  • Double Jackpot Poker
  • Double Bonus Poker
  • Bonus Deluxe
  • Bonus Poker
  • Joker Poker
  • Deuces Wild
  • Jacks or Better
  • Double Jackpot Poker
  • Double Bonus Poker
  • Bonus Deluxe
  • Five Draw Poker

The same goes for their video poker machines, though what we will say is that they offer one of the largest selections of video poker games available to American players. Only RealTime Gaming comes close to this.

Licensing and Game Testing

BetSoft does run fair games, or so they claim. They say their RNG is tested by Quinel M Limited. They also say that some of their games have received individual certifications.

Beyond that, their games are tested and audited by independent certification bodies. Those are selected by regulatory bodies, such as the Malta Gaming Authority, AAMS, and the Danish Gambling Authority.

BetSoft currently holds an eGaming license in Curacao, as well as a Class 4 license from the Malta Gaming Authority, which they received in 2014.

Important!
During their progressive jackpot issue discussed above, many reports stated that BetSoft’s licensing and auditing is questionable – that the auditors have done nothing to check the relationship between the RNG and software.

This means that the software could disregard all winning number combinations the RNG generates, and ask for another number combo instead.

And another thing – according to CasinoListings.com, the Alderney Gambling Control Commission suspended BetSoft’s license. There was no reason given, but the theory was that it was due to BetSoft licensing its games to casinos that accepted American players.

The AGCC set a hearing date for 10/13/2014, but BetSoft surrendered their license certificate prior to the hearing, which ended any chance of there being an investigation.

Conclusion

There’s no denying it – BetSoft creates excellent casino software.

Their games look great and they’re a blast to play. And it seems like BetSoft is ahead of the curve when it comes to mobile game development.

However, they’ve screwed up pretty good, too. So much so that they’ve been blacklisted at a few casino info portals, like CasinoListings.com.

As we said earlier, we haven’t blacklisted them. In fact, we recommend you at least play their games for fun/play money because they’re so enjoyable to play.

And if you choose to play at a BetSoft-powered casino, we also recommend you either skip their games entirely (and play games from a different software provider), or at least skip their progressive machines, since there’s no guarantee you’ll be paid if you do get lucky enough to win.

Hopefully we can change this recommendation for the better in the near future.
