An Overview of Realtime Gaming (RTG) Casino Software

If you’re an American casino player who’s got even the tiniest bit of online gambling experience under your belt, then chances are you’ve played a Realtime Gaming casino game.

At the very least, you’ve heard of them.

We don’t know the exact numbers, but from what we’ve seen, RTG powers the majority of U.S.-facing online casinos.

Which is why we’ve written this page dedicated to them, with details about their company background, games, licenses, operator options, and more.

Realtime Gaming (RTG) has been in the online gambling industry since 1998.

And… that’s all they share on their “about” page.

This is relatively odd, considering that most gaming software companies who’ve been around that long have a detailed about page explaining their origins, what they’ve accomplished, and what their mission is for the future.

You won’t find any of that on RTG’s website.

If you dig elsewhere (like Wikipedia), you’ll also learn that Realtime Gaming launched in and was once based out of Atlanta, Georgia. Then they moved their operations to Costa Rica in 2007-2008.

This was about the same time they were acquired by Hastings International, a company based out of Curacao. Hasting International is managed by the HBM Group.

And that’s about it, as far as their company history is concerned.

While you may struggle to find information about RTG the company, you won’t struggle to find details about how they run their business. More specifically, their carefree attitude about who leases/buys access to their software.

Many reviews claim that RTG will sell their software to any operator. And once the deal goes through, it seems as if Realtime Gaming washes their hands of anything – good or bad – that happens afterwards. They don’t seem to care about what their operators do to customers.

What’s worse is that many of their operators are registered and/or licensed in countries such as Costa Rica and Curacao.

The upside is that it’s much easier to obtain a license compared to other countries, such as the United Kingdom or United States.

The downside (for players) is that there’s little, if any, regulation. Which means there’s little, if any, outside help or recourse available if the operator decides to screw their customers over.

There are tons of examples that illustrate this. All you have to do is check out Casino Listings’ blacklist, and you’ll see several examples of shady casinos and casino groups who have used or use Realtime Gaming software and take advantage of their customers.

This is just the nature of the beast, unfortunately.

Now, that’s not to condone RTG or their operator’s behavior. Not at all.

It’s just that there’s not much you can do about it, other than educate yourself, know who the legit RTG-powered casinos are, and know who you should avoid. It’s a risk you must be willing to accept if you want to gamble online from the United States.

It’s also a reputation you must be okay with if you want to lease their games.

Realtime Gaming says they have more than 300 games.

We don’t know about that.

It’s probably true, but we’ve never seen that many of their games offered at the casinos we’ve reviewed. Most usually have in the realm of 120-ish, and that’s in the download. The browser casino usually has less, and the mobile casino has even less than that.

That said, RTG has a solid, diverse selection of casino games overall. Let’s look at some examples you can play now:

Their website says they also offer live dealer games. This is pretty new, as most casinos we’ve reviewed (and other reviews we’ve read) don’t say anything about a live dealer section.

And while they have a robust table/card game selection for desktop users, their mobile selection pales in comparison. It’s improved over the past couple of years, we’ll give them that. When they first launched their mobile casino, they only offered blackjack. Now they offer blackjack, suit ‘em up blackjack, and tri-card poker.

But it’s a relatively thin selection nonetheless.

Their video poker games are available in multi-hand (1, 3, 10, 52, 100) variants. You can play hands for as little as  5 cents per round, though we’ve read that you must have at least $5 in your account to play at all.

And mobile users will find an excellent selection of video poker games to choose from. For example, SlotoCash.im offers more than 15 titles/variants.

Pro Tip! Experts say that RTG operators can choose from one of three different pay tables when configuring their video poker machines. So, if you know what you’re looking for (and if it matters to you), you should shop around to find the best odds.

Realtime Gaming offers a diverse mix of slot machines, as you no doubt can see. You’ll be able to play a variety of slot themes, as well as slots with bonus rounds, wilds, and features.

RTG also offers slot tournaments. They say they offer “feature rich” tourneys, which allow players to re-buy and add-on. More than 10,000 players can participate in one of their tournaments.

You can choose from one of many progressive slot machines, too. You can see a list of them on their site, along with their value, average win, biggest win, and so on. There are several now worth a few hundred thousand dollars, as well as a few others worth more than $1 million.

If you look at the Hastings International B.V. website, you’ll see that their games are tested by Gaming Labs.

This means that their RNG has been tested and proven to be fair – which, in gambling, means that the games are random and not fixed.

RTG discusses a little on their website about what they have to offer operators. They say they offer a “complete solution.”

Here’s a brief glimpse into what a “complete solution” looks like:

• Support (in tools and services).
• Access to RTG’s network of gaming-related business (for example, web hosting and payment processing).
• Integration help/advice if you want to add their casino software to an existing sportsbook or poker room.
• A bonus system you can use to reach out to players, based on game preference, channel, deposit type, and more (while protecting the casino from bonus abuse).

And more – including advice and best practices for a brand-new gambling business.

Realtime Gaming also says their software is highly customizable, and that it offers seamless integration with whatever existing product you may be offering, eliminating the need for additional player accounts and passwords.

They also have a page (though it doesn’t look like it’s complete) that mentions that they offer a turnkey solution. This means that operators can receive help or guidance with the different aspects of running a gaming business.

That includes:

• Marketing
• Training
• Delivery
• Development
• Payment processing
• Regulation policy framework

And more.

With their (business) software, you’ll also be able to create custom reports. You can use this information to create custom marketing campaigns. For example, you could send out bonuses to only blackjack players, players who haven’t logged in for a couple months to try to get them to play again, high rollers, and so on.

The bottom line – there’s plenty of help, tools, and resources that operators can use to launch and grow their online gambling business.

After all, there’s a reason why so many operators work with them.

Their software isn’t as fancy or modern as others are, like BetSoft or international favorites like Microgaming or Playtech. But RTG offers a diverse library of slots, video poker, table, card, and live dealer games that will satisfy the majority of people who play them.

And while they certainly have areas where they can improve – namely implementing some kind of vetting process to weed out shoddy operators – it is possible to find a trustworthy, U.S.-friendly, RTG-powered casino to join.
